BaFin Flags Eight Websites Over Unauthorized Investment Services

Germanys Federal Financial Supervisory Authority has issued another round of warnings concerning websites suspected of offering financial and investment services without the required authorization.

The latest notices cover online trading platforms, fixed-term deposit offers and services linked to securities and digital assets. BaFin also identified cases in which operators allegedly used the names or corporate details of legitimate businesses to make their websites appear regulated.

Unauthorized Trading and Deposit Offers

Several warnings relate to services that normally require regulatory approval in Germany.

These include securities trading, brokerage activity, banking products and fixed-term deposits. BaFin stated that companies offering such services to German consumers must hold the appropriate authorization.

Some websites allegedly promoted deposit products using professional-looking interfaces and returns that appeared more attractive than standard bank rates. Others offered access to trading in forex, shares, commodities and related instruments without showing valid approval from the German regulator.

Identity Misuse Appears in Several Cases

BaFin also reported suspected identity misuse involving legitimate companies in Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

In these cases, unauthorized operators allegedly copied company names, business information or branding to suggest a relationship with an established financial institution.

A website may therefore display a real company name while being operated by an unrelated party. Checking the domain name against the regulators official register remains necessary, as the company details and website address must match.

Similar Website Designs Raise Further Concerns

The regulator noted that several of the identified websites use closely related layouts, page structures and promotional language.

This repeated design pattern may indicate that multiple platforms are operated through the same technical or marketing network. The branding and domain names differ, but the account-registration process, website templates and product descriptions appear similar.

For users of online forex and trading platforms, this type of structure can make separate websites appear to be independent financial companies even when they share the same underlying setup.

Authorization Should Be Checked Before Using a Platform

BaFin advised consumers to verify any company offering banking, brokerage, securities or investment services through its official company database.

The existence of a website, trading dashboard or German-language customer service does not confirm that the operator is licensed.

Users should compare the legal company name, website domain, registered address and authorization details before providing personal information or using any financial service.
