FTMO paid more than $422 million to acquire OANDA, revealing the scale of one of the retail trading industry's most closely watched transactions and underlining the growing ambition of the prop trading sector.

The Czech based proprietary trading group paid more than 8.79 billion Czech koruna for OANDA, according to FTMO's annual financial filings. The transaction was completed on December 1, 2025, after FTMO agreed to acquire the established broker from investment firm CVC.

The price represents a dramatic increase from the $160 million CVC paid for OANDA in 2018. For FTMO, however, the acquisition appears to have been about more than simply purchasing an established brokerage brand.

The deal gives FTMO access to a regulated brokerage infrastructure and strengthens its position in the United States, where the company has been attempting to rebuild its presence after previously leaving the market.

The United States became FTMO's second largest market during 2025, behind the United Kingdom. Its relationship with OANDA began before the acquisition was completed, allowing FTMO to launch proprietary trading services in the US through OANDA's existing regulated infrastructure.

The transaction also gives FTMO access to technology and regulatory capabilities that would have been considerably more difficult to develop independently.

The financial figures show that FTMO entered the transaction from a position of considerable growth. Its parent company, OHM, reported consolidated revenue of about 8.9 billion Czech koruna in 2025, equivalent to roughly $427 million, representing a 30 percent increase from the previous year.

Paid orders for FTMO's core proprietary trading services increased by almost 50 percent to 1.27 million during the year. Even more strikingly, returning customers generated close to 80 percent of total revenue.

That figure highlights a fundamental feature of the modern prop trading business. The economics do not depend entirely on attracting new traders. Existing customers who return for additional challenges, account increases or other products can become a major source of recurring revenue.

The acquisition also substantially expanded the group's balance sheet. Consolidated assets reached approximately 30.7 billion Czech koruna at the end of 2025, while equity stood at around 13 billion Czech koruna.

FTMO had earlier secured a $250 million credit facility from a group of Czech banks led by UniCredit, helping finance the OANDA transaction.

The acquisition reflects a broader shift in the retail trading industry, where the traditional distinction between brokers and proprietary trading firms is becoming increasingly blurred. Prop firms have increasingly sought access to regulated infrastructure, while brokers are expanding their products and services to capture more of the retail trading ecosystem.

For OANDA, the ownership change places the long established broker under a company whose growth has been closely associated with the rapid expansion of retail prop trading.
