Q2 2026 Trading Volume Falls 11% as Trade Count Drops 23%

Capital.com reported client trading volume of $1.13 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, down $140 billion from $1.27 trillion in the first quarter, representing an approximately 11% quarter-on-quarter decline in notional trading volume. By comparison, the decline in the number of trades was considerably more pronounced.

From April to June 2026, Capital.com executed 34.9 million trades, down 23.2% from 45.4 million in the first quarter. However, the average trade size increased by 16%, rising from $27,950 to $32,418. Although overall client trading volume declined, the remaining trading activity was more concentrated in larger individual positions.

The difference between the declines in trade count and trading volume reveals a change that cannot be captured by looking at total trading volume alone. If client trading activity had declined uniformly, the decreases in trade count and notional trading volume should have been broadly similar. Instead, the percentage decline in trade count was more than twice that of trading volume.

According to the data, Capital.coms trading volume reached $1.27 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, an 11.2% increase from the fourth quarter of 2025. The decline in the second quarter therefore brought overall trading activity back to a level broadly comparable with that of late 2025.

By instrument, gold accounted for 42.4% of second-quarter trading volume, followed by the US Tech 100 at 25.9%.
