Crypto Revenue Falls in Q2 as Another Platform Moves Into CFDs

Abstract:Crypto trading revenue weakened across major platforms in Q2 2026 as market activity slowed, while another crypto-focused platform expanded into forex and CFD products, highlighting a broader shift toward multi-asset trading.

Crypto trading revenue came under pressure in the second quarter of 2026 as weaker market activity reduced transaction income across several major platforms.

At the same time, the boundary between crypto exchanges and traditional retail brokers continued to narrow. Another crypto-focused platform has added contracts for difference covering forex, commodities, precious metals and stock indices, extending its business beyond digital assets.

Taken together, the two developments show how trading firms are trying to reduce their dependence on a single asset class.

Crypto Trading Slowed Across the Market

The weakness in platform revenue followed a broader decline in crypto activity.

Total crypto market capitalisation fell 12.6% quarter-on-quarter to about $2.1 trillion, while spot trading volume on centralised exchanges dropped 27.9% to $1.95 trillion.

Revenue linked directly to crypto transactions also fell at several large platforms, with some reporting year-on-year declines of more than 30%.

The fall in trading volume was sharper than the decline in market value, suggesting that reduced participation was an important part of the slowdown rather than price weakness alone.

Stablecoin market capitalisation also contracted during the quarter for the first time since 2023, another indication that capital was leaving parts of the crypto market.

Diversification Is Becoming More Important

Despite weaker crypto revenue, the decline did not translate into equally weak results across every trading business.

Platforms with exposure to equities, derivatives, subscriptions or other financial products were better able to offset lower digital-asset activity.

This is becoming increasingly relevant for businesses that historically relied heavily on crypto transaction fees. Trading income can change quickly when volatility falls or retail participation weakens, making revenue concentration a larger risk.

The response has increasingly been to add products outside crypto.

Another Crypto Platform Adds Forex and CFDs

BingX became the latest crypto-focused trading platform to move further into traditional markets with the launch of CFD products in August 2026.

The new offering covers foreign exchange, precious metals, commodities and stock indices and is connected to the MetaTrader 5 trading environment.

The move places products commonly associated with retail forex and CFD brokers alongside the platforms existing digital-asset business.

However, several details remain unclear. The company has not disclosed the complete list of jurisdictions where the products are available or provided a full breakdown of instruments offered in each category.

For an industry increasingly shaped by cross-border regulation, those details will determine how broadly the new business can actually operate.

Crypto Platforms and CFD Brokers Are Converging

The expansion into CFDs is part of a broader change in retail trading.

Crypto platforms are increasingly looking beyond spot and derivatives linked exclusively to digital assets, while multi-asset trading has become more common across the wider brokerage industry.

For crypto-focused businesses, forex, metals and indices provide additional sources of trading activity when digital-asset volumes weaken. For traditional brokers, digital assets have served the opposite purpose by widening the range of markets available to clients.

The result is a gradual convergence between two businesses that previously operated through largely separate product ecosystems.

The regulatory structure remains different, however. CFD leverage, client protections and product restrictions vary significantly by jurisdiction, while access to crypto products follows a separate set of rules in many markets.

Q2 Highlights the Risk of Relying on One Market

The second-quarter figures show how quickly revenue can fall when trading activity in a core asset class contracts.

Crypto remains an important source of volume, but the decline in spot activity has made diversification more relevant to platforms dependent on transaction revenue.

The latest move into CFDs fits that pattern. It is less a story about one platform entering forex than a sign that crypto trading businesses are increasingly competing for activity across a wider range of financial markets.
