Interactive Brokers Review: When a Global Broker Leaves Traders Fighting for Their Own Money

WikiFX | 2026-07-29 14:00

Abstract:Interactive Brokers carries strong global regulation, but our investigation found revoked licenses, regulator sanctions, clone warnings, and recent user reports of frozen accounts, blocked withdrawals, and website access failures. For retail traders, the biggest danger is not the brand name—it is what happens when money needs to come out.

A trader in Hong Kong said the account was frozen and closed after repeated document requests. The user claimed losses of “five to six ten-thousand US dollars,” then said more than 20,000 US dollars remained trapped when withdrawal requests went unanswered.

That is the review that cuts through the marketing. A big name can still create a small traders nightmare when funds are delayed, accounts are restricted, and support goes silent.

Our investigation into 盈透证券, widely known as Interactive Brokers or IBKR, shows a complicated picture. The broker has long history, broad market reach, and multiple active licenses. But the same record also contains revoked regulatory statuses, official sanctions, clone warnings, and complaints involving withdrawal pressure points.

Is Interactive Brokers Broker Safe for Retail Forex Traders?

Interactive Brokers was established in 2002 according to the broker profile supplied to WikiFX. It has an AAA influence ranking, a WikiFX score of 8.82, and a strong international footprint. Its influence is reported across markets including the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Armenia, Angola, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bangladesh.

That profile can look reassuring at first glance. Many user comments also praise the brokers low trading fees, advanced tools, educational resources, and customer support. Several 2024 reviews from the United Kingdom describe the platform as reliable, professional, and useful for serious trading.

But safe trading is not only about low fees or powerful tools. For retail Forex and multi-asset traders, safety begins when a withdrawal request is treated fairly and when account controls do not become a wall.

The warning signs appear in the complaints. One Hong Kong user in October 2024 said they submitted many documents, were told the account was non-compliant, then saw the account frozen and closed. The user said they confirmed the withdrawal by phone, but customer service, tickets, and emails stopped producing replies.

A Vietnamese user in April 2024 reported being unable to withdraw deposited funds because the platform allegedly required a three-month VIP upgrade. Another Vietnamese complaint said withdrawal was refused and the account was locked, preventing entry. These are serious allegations from users and should be treated as risk signals, not background noise.

Regulation Reality Audit: Interactive Brokers Regulatory Records

Here is the hard regulation picture. Our investigation found several active licenses, but also two revoked statuses tied to ASIC and Hong Kong SFC records.

RegulatorLicense TypeREAL STATUS
Australia ASICINTERACTIVE BROKERS LLC / License No. 000245574Revoked
UK FCAInteractive Brokers (U.K.) Limited / License No. 208159Regulated
US NFAINTERACTIVE BROKERS LLC / License No. 0258600Regulated
Hong Kong SFCInteractive Brokers Hong Kong Limited / License No. ADI249Regulated
Hong Kong SFCInteractive Brokers LLC / License No. AEX264Revoked
Japan FSAインタラクティブ・ブローカーズ証券株式会社 / License No. 関東財務局長(金商)第187号Regulated
Australia ASICINTERACTIVE BROKERS AUSTRALIA PTY LTD / License No. 453554Regulated
Canada CIROInteractive Brokers Canada Inc. / License No. not publishedRegulated

This is not a simple “unregulated broker” case. It is more complex. The broker remains regulated by major authorities, but the regulatory history contains bad statuses and enforcement actions that retail traders cannot ignore.

The FCA disclosed clone-company warnings involving entities using Interactive Brokers details without authorization. One warning involved xtradecons.com. Another involved Immediate Matrix. In both cases, the FCA described unauthorized clone activity that copied or mixed real firm details to mislead people.

That matters because clone risk attacks trust. Traders may see a familiar brand name, a real reference number, or a real address, then assume the counterparty is genuine. The regulators message is clear: verify the official website and contact details before sending documents or money.

Official Sanctions Show Control Failures, Not Just Paperwork

Regulation is supposed to protect the market. But official records show that regulators have already identified serious control problems in different Interactive Brokers entities.

The FCA fined Interactive Brokers (U.K.) Limited 1,049,412 pounds over failures involving market abuse controls and suspicious transaction reporting during the relevant period identified by the regulator. The FCA said the firms systems were inadequate and ineffective in the face of potentially suspicious trading.

The NFA ordered Interactive Brokers LLC to pay a 250,000 US dollar fine. The case involved allegations that the firm cancelled retail customer Forex orders for permitted reasons under NFA rules and failed to adequately supervise employees conducting Forex activity on behalf of the company. The NFA decision found violations of NFA Compliance Rules 2-43(a)(1) and 2-36(e).

ASIC also recorded a penalty against Interactive Brokers Australia Pty Ltd. The firm paid 832,500 dollars after the Market Disciplinary Panel found failures linked to suspicious trading alerts and responses. The record stated the firm allowed further suspicious trading after ASIC raised concerns and described aspects of the conduct as negligent and reckless.

These are not minor website comments. They are official actions from financial authorities.

Interactive Brokers Login and Access Issues Exposed

Login risk is not theoretical when a trader says an account has been locked. One Vietnamese complaint stated the account was locked and the user could not enter. Another user from Belarus said the company redeemed recent service issues, but the website kept crashing for a week.

For mobile-first traders, this matters immediately. If the site crashes during market movement, or if account access is blocked while a withdrawal is pending, the trader loses control at the worst possible moment.

The platform profile also notes that Interactive Brokers uses proprietary software and supports mobile apps including IBKR Mobile, IBKR GlobalTrader, and IMPACT. The experience is described as average, with mobile support available. However, the software review also notes the absence of two-step login and biometric authentication for safer login.

That combination deserves attention: powerful tools, broad app availability, but reported access friction and weaker security-login features than traders may expect from a major global broker.

Visual Evidence

No 2026 case images were provided in the current complaint records reviewed for this report. Earlier user reviews include image links, but the case dates are from 2024, so no current-year visual placeholder is inserted here.

Key Red Flags

  • Two regulatory records show revoked status: one under Australia ASIC and one under Hong Kong SFC.
  • Official sanctions include FCA, NFA, and ASIC actions involving control failures, supervision issues, suspicious trading oversight, or Forex-related order handling.
  • Recent user complaints allege frozen accounts, blocked withdrawals, slow withdrawal processing, and non-response from support.
  • FCA clone warnings show that unauthorized entities have used Interactive Brokers details to appear legitimate.

What the Mixed Reviews Really Mean

Not every user report is negative. Some traders praised low fees, advanced analytics, education, charting tools, and customer service. One experienced user in 2025 said IB has strong qualifications, low spreads, helpful tools, and strict review procedures, while also warning that withdrawals can be very slow and audits can feel troublesome.

That balance is important. A broker can be legitimate, licensed, and useful for skilled traders while still presenting serious operational risk for others.

The danger is the gap between reputation and lived experience. A trader does not need a broker to fail everywhere. One frozen account, one unanswered withdrawal, or one access breakdown can be enough to create financial distress.

Final Verdict: A Regulated Forex Broker With Risks Traders Must Verify First

Interactive Brokers is not a no-name operation. It has long operating history, multiple active regulatory registrations, and strong global influence. But this review finds a broker with a regulatory record that also contains revoked statuses, sanctions, clone warnings, and complaint pressure around withdrawals and access.

Retail traders should not rely on brand recognition alone. Before depositing, verify the exact entity, regulator, license number, official website, and withdrawal rules. Keep records of every ticket, email, phone confirmation, and document request.

The protective conclusion is simple: proceed carefully. If your priority is fast withdrawal, simple support, and frictionless account access, the complaints reviewed here raise enough concern to demand extra due diligence before using this broker for Forex or any other trading activity.
