CONSOB Orders Blocking of 24 Unauthorized Investment Websites

Italys financial regulator has ordered internet service providers to block access to 24 websites accused of offering investment services without the required authorization.

The latest action covers 10 websites linked to unauthorized financial-instrument services and 14 websites associated with unapproved digital-asset activities. Once the technical process is completed, users connecting from Italy will no longer be able to access the listed domains.

Ten Unauthorized Investment Platforms Targeted

CONSOB identified the following websites as offering investment services or activities involving financial instruments without authorization:

• Nova Trade — nova-trade.com

Several names and domains suggest a focus on online trading, including forex-related services. The blocking orders do not depend on where the operators claim to be based; the issue is whether they are authorized to provide investment services to users in Italy.

The remaining websites were connected to three groups operating through numerous domains:

The use of several similar domains allows an operator to continue reaching users even after one address attracts regulatory attention or becomes inaccessible.

Total Blocked Since 2019 Reaches 1,793

The new orders bring the number of websites blocked by CONSOB since July 2019 to 1,793.

The regulator received the power to restrict websites operated by unauthorized financial intermediaries under Italys Growth Decree. Separate powers under the European and Italian digital-asset framework are used against websites providing those services without authorization.

Italian internet providers are implementing the latest orders, although CONSOB noted that blocking may take several days for technical reasons.

CONSOB Warns of Cloned Websites and False Profiles

The regulator also highlighted changes in the methods used to attract investors online.

These include cloned websites and email addresses, false profiles using the identities of politicians or celebrities, and manipulated images, voices or videos. Such material may be used to promote an investment offer, direct users to a trading platform or persuade them to provide money and personal data.

For forex traders, a professional website or trading interface does not establish that the operator is licensed. The company name, domain and authorization status should match the information published by the relevant financial regulator.
