Market Review

According to ETO Markets monitoring, on January 14 (Wednesday), spot gold surged sharply and briefly hit a new all-time high of USD 4,642.77 per ounce. Prices eased slightly on profit-taking but remained firmly elevated. Spot silver also rallied, touching a record high of USD 93.67 per ounce, with broad strength across the precious metals complex.

Global Headlines

1) FED Beige Book Signals Stability

On Wednesday, the FED released its latest Beige Book, showing moderate economic expansion across most U.S. regions. Employment conditions remained broadly stable, while inflation pressures have yet to fully fade. The report supports a wait-and-see policy stance in the near term.

2) Trump Proposes 25% Chip Tariffs

On Wednesday, President Trump said the U.S. would impose a 25% tariff on imported chips not used in domestic AI development. The measure targets chips transiting through the U.S. for overseas data centers and could generate billions in revenue. No investment exemptions were reiterated.

3) Trump Signals Iran De-Escalation

On Wednesday, Trump said he had received assurances that Iran would stop “killing” protesters and hinted at a possible pause in military action. Following the remarks, oil prices fell about 4% intraday. Trump added that further steps remain under review.

4) Europe Deploys Troops Greenland

On January 14, Germany announced it would send 13 soldiers to Greenland at Denmarks request, starting January 15. France, Sweden, and Norway also signaled participation in related missions, highlighting rising Arctic security tensions.

5) Trump Signs Critical Minerals Order

The White House said Trump signed an executive order to secure U.S. supplies of rare earths and critical minerals. The order accelerates domestic mining, streamlines approvals, and invokes the Defense Production Act, prioritizing copper, uranium, gold, and other key resources.

ETO Markets Analyst View (Spot Gold)

After repeatedly setting new record highs, spot gold has entered a short-term high-level consolidation phase. The USD 4,640 area now serves as a key pivot. A sustained hold above this zone could allow another upside extension, while rejection may trigger a pullback toward the USD 4,600 area to digest recent gains.

RSI indicators have started to ease, suggesting fading short-term momentum and room for technical correction. Within a structural bull market, such pullbacks are more likely to reflect rhythm-driven consolidation rather than trend reversal. With data releases and policy signals overlapping, investors are advised to stay flexible and closely monitor macro and risk developments.
