From Charts to Communities: EBC's Support for the Foundation for Slum Child Care

As brokers, we're used to numbers, platforms, and analysis. But at EBC Financial Group, we believe the real measure of value is found in what we give back.

On 28 June 2025, we visited the Foundation for Slum Child Care (Baan Som Wai), based in Bangkok's Klong Toey district — the city's largest informal settlement. We brought essential supplies, funded dinner, and spent time with over 55 children in the care of the Foundation. It was a simple gesture, but one grounded in our commitment to doing more than just business.

Why Klong Toey？

Bangkok is a regional economic powerhouse. But beneath its modern infrastructure lies a stark contrast. Around 1.5 million people — nearly 30 percent of the city's population — live in informal settlements. Among them, Klong Toey stands out for both its scale and its challenges: overcrowding, low income, unstable living conditions, and limited access to childcare.

The Foundation for Slum Child Care was established to help address these needs. Operating as a day-care centre for children aged 3 months to 5 years, it offers early childhood development, emotional care, and physical support in a safe and structured environment. For many families, the centre is a lifeline — and for the children, it is a second home.

Our Contribution

Our Thailand team came together to provide a range of necessities including eggs, fresh fruit, ATK test kits, soy sauce, seasonings, tissue paper, and alcohol sanitiser. In addition to these supplies, we made a financial contribution to support dinner for all 55 children present that day.

While modest, our goal was to help relieve some of the everyday pressure the centre faces, and to show the community that they are not alone.

A Message from the Foundation

During the visit, we had the honour of speaking with Arisa Wongcharoenyong, Head Caregiver at the Infant Care Centre. She expressed gratitude on behalf of the Foundation, which had recently celebrated its 44th anniversary on 22 June 2025.

"In a world that feels complex and challenging, the Foundation for Slum Child Care remains a warm and safe second home for the children. On behalf of the Foundation, I sincerely thank EBC Financial Group for bringing love and easing our burdens. This support is not only about the supplies, but also a great encouragement for the children and our entire team. I wish all EBC employees good health and much happiness," said Arisa.
