EBC Is Proving That Corporations Can Make a Real Difference in United to Beat Malaria

EBC | 2025-04-30 12:01

Abstract:In 2025, EBC Financial Group has not only maintained its partnership with the United to Beat Malaria campaign but has taken a more active and integrated role in the fight to eradicate malaria worldwid

In 2025, EBC Financial Group has not only maintained its partnership with the United to Beat Malaria campaign but has taken a more active and integrated role in the fight to eradicate malaria worldwide. David Barrett, CEO of EBC Financial Group (UK) Ltd, reflected on the evolution of this involvement:

“In 2024, we stood in solidarity. In 2025, we stand in action. This campaign is now embedded into our leadership strategy and employee culture. This is not a moment, it's a movement.”

This shift has been a game-changer for EBC. While corporate sponsorship is crucial, our commitment now goes beyond financial contributions. We have rolled up our sleeves to advocate, engage, and inspire, using our global reach to raise awareness and amplify the voices of those fighting malaria every day.

Raising Awareness through the Move Against Malaria 5K

One of the pivotal moments in 2025 was our role as the first-ever corporate sponsor for the Move Against Malaria 5K, an event aimed at raising both awareness and funds for malaria prevention. From April 25 to May 10, participants walked, ran, cycled, and moved in other ways to show solidarity with those affected by malaria—and EBC employees were right there at the heart of it.

Barrett elaborated on the significance of this initiative:

“We have offices in Africa, Latin America, and Asia where malaria is a very real, on-ground problem. Supporting this campaign is a natural progression, resonating with our people and the communities we work in.”

More than 200 EBC employees signed up to participate, reflecting a commitment that goes beyond simply writing a cheque. It's about community involvement, engagement, and taking tangible action in support of the fight against malaria.

From Ally to Advocate: Scaling Up Our Impact

Our journey with United to Beat Malaria has transformed us from a supportive partner to a proactive advocate. EBC's involvement now includes backing frontline health programs, such as distributing insecticide-treated bed nets, providing rapid diagnostic tests, and supporting antimalarial treatments in areas where the disease is most prevalent.

Barrett shared his growing perspective on this mission:

“The first year for me was a complete revelation in terms of how advocacy for this mission worked—not only in America but globally. This year, it was different. The politics have shifted, and the challenges have changed. But if anything, that makes this mission even more important.”

In line with this broader vision, EBC also pushed for stronger support from the private sector during the United to Beat Malaria Annual Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. At this summit, EBC executives, including Samuel Hertz, our APAC Director of Operations, engaged with policymakers and scientists to strengthen our collective response to the global malaria crisis.

Hertz highlighted the significance of these collaborations:

“Being able to walk into the halls of Congress alongside these dedicated Champions—people who are educating communities, building coalitions, and pushing policy forward—was a powerful reminder that advocacy works. EBC was proud to represent the private sector in this movement, and even prouder to walk beside the changemakers driving it.”

A Private Sector Catalyst: The Importance of Corporate Leadership

Margaret McDonnell, Executive Director of United to Beat Malaria, underscored the critical role that private sector companies like EBC play in this global effort:

“We appreciate that a company like EBC—though not in public health—recognises the impact of malaria on your workforce, clients, and communities. Malaria isn't just a health issue. It's an economic issue, a workforce issue, and a strategic global issue.”

EBC's efforts prove that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is no longer just about philanthropy—it's about integration. By aligning our values with those of the United to Beat Malaria campaign, we are not only addressing a global health crisis but also strengthening our own internal culture and creating opportunities for our employees to engage meaningfully with this cause.

EBC's Unwavering Commitment to Malaria Eradication

As we continue our journey with United to Beat Malaria, our role will only grow. EBC Financial Group is deeply committed to ensuring that malaria is eradicated once and for all. Our involvement is more than financial—it's personal, it's global, and it's integrated into the fabric of who we are as a company.

David Barrett's words capture our ethos perfectly:

“This campaign is now embedded into our leadership strategy and employee culture. This is not a moment, it's a movement.”

As we move forward, we stand united with United to Beat Malaria, the UN Foundation, and our partners, ready to play a pivotal role in the global fight to end malaria and create a healthier world for all.
