The rupee depreciated by 27 paise against the USD to finish at 87.52 (provisional) on August 22, 2025, as weak domestic equity markets and a strengthening US dollar ahead of the speech to be delivered by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell weighed in. The foreign fund inflow and a fall in Brent crude prices, however, helped the rupee pare losses.
The rupee opened at 87.37 against the USD at the interbank foreign exchange, and traded within 87.32-87.55 before closing at 87.52, slipping by 27 paise from the previous close.
