IndustryRupee's Tumble Against USD on August 8, 2025
The rupee fell 13 paise to settle at 87.71 against the USD on August 8, 2025, tracking weak domestic equities and uncertainty around the India-US trade deal. The rupee has constantly been trading within a narrow range as weak domestic equity market cues weighed in. The constant foreign fund outflows are another obstacle in the rupee’s way, say forex traders. Additionally, President Donald Trump’s decision to hike import duties on Indian exports to as steep as 50% has jolted domestic market sentiments.
The rupee, which commenced its journey at 87.56 at the interbank foreign exchange today, remained in a range of 87.52-87.75 before finishing the day at 87.71, recording a 13-paise decline from the previous close against the USD.
