Abstract:Bursa Malaysia has warned investors about fake letters misusing its name and logo, urging the public to verify all investment offers through official channels before transferring funds or sharing personal information.

Malaysian investors are facing increasingly sophisticated online deception tactics, with fraudsters now misusing the name and logo of Bursa Malaysia to make fake investment communications appear legitimate.

The latest tactic involves fraudulent letters that carry Bursa Malaysia‘s branding, giving the impression that they come from one of the country’s most recognised financial institutions. These documents are designed to mislead investors into transferring money or sharing personal information under the belief that they are dealing with an official or trusted party.

Bursa Malaysia has confirmed the issue and issued a public warning through its official Facebook page on May 5. The exchange urged investors to remain cautious and not to trust letters, messages or offers that misuse its name, logo or identity.

The warning highlights the growing need for investors to verify all financial offers before taking action. Even when a document looks official, investors should not assume it is genuine based solely on the use of logos, letterheads or institutional names.

Bursa Malaysia advised the public to conduct proper checks before engaging in any financial transaction or providing personal details to parties claiming to represent the exchange. Investors can verify the legitimacy of investment offers through the Securities Commission Malaysias Investment Checker portal at sc.com.my/investment-checker.

Members of the public who encounter suspicious activity or believe they may have been targeted are encouraged to contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 as soon as possible.

This case serves as an important reminder that official-looking documents can be easily misused. For investors, the safest approach is to verify directly through official channels before transferring funds or sharing sensitive information.
